I used iTunes, and I think it works pretty well... _________________

As to sound like a broken record on purpose, but iTunes is the best. Especially with 8 it organizes everything better. And, it really does support other players. Just please check it out. |

Install a user-friendly Linux OS (like OpenSuSE or Ubuntu) and use either amaroK or Rockbox (Depends entirely on which Desktop environment you're running).
If you don't wanna go through that trouble, you have two choices.
A) Let me do it for you (come to work or something and I'll do it there)
or
B) Use something known for having good management abilities, like iTunes. _________________

iTunes is terrible. Poorly organized. One of the worst I've used.
Mediamonkey is the absolute winner. It's got a free version, but the full version is worth it. Even the free version is the best Media player I've ever used. When you've got a couple thousand songs, it's nice to have a bit more organization.
I highly recommend it. It's perfect, _________________

Literally. If iTunes is poorly organized, it means you screwed up your tags. _________________

I can't resist, I have to pimp foobar and the setup i'm using one more time, so people can see how awesome it looks.
This is the main navigator screen, as you can see, the default sorting is Artist -> Year in a giant list. But foobar has its own API, so that you can do a lot with it if you put the effort into learning how things work. Changing around the sort shouldn't be too difficult. It also uses an addon for CoverFlow like itunes has, but apparently my graphics card on my lappy doesn't support it so I can't display it. Also, the information text at the bottom should be white, not black, but the windows skin I'm using messes with it for some reason.
Clicking on one of the buttons under the play/stop buttons brings up this side panel that does some cool things. This one is an album-view navigator, it also has one for artists. If you use the tree-format of Artist -> Album, with all the Albums in separate folders under Artist, you can get pictures for the album art and artist photo, which is very neat.
It also supports a lyric mod that downloads lyric files from the internet to view in-player. Some are timed with the music, some you have to move yourself, but you can always write your own to use in a text file.
It can also get detailed info about whatever you're listening to. I know most other players have this but I like the clean and integrated presentation.
Finally, it has a tree-structure overview that lets you jump to a specific artist/album/genre/whathaveyou and play it in a separate playlist, separate from the master view.
Questions and comments welcome, I'd love to convert some of you! _________________

So damien, is it compatible with last.fm and/or AMIP (IRC announcing)? If so, I might use it >_> _________________

I had it working before with last.fm, but then foobar upgraded versions, and I gather the plugin author updated his plugin. On the last.fm forums people seem to be having mixed results, I'll check it out myself and see what I can get.
I know it works with AMIP, or at least did before I took my hiatus from the IRCs. (Again, needs a plugin.)
EDIT: also forgot 2 nifty features, an 18-band equalizer, and support for global hotkeys - absolutely indispensable for listening to music whilst gaming! _________________

I Love my WinAmp... Small, easy to set up your play lists. Compatible with tons of DSP and sound enhancing plugins. Even with integrated Audio on my laptop, when I plug my external speakers in, my music sounds better than if I played it on my 800 watt stereo system. _________________

*Me goes to you yob.*
I'll try it myself... but if I can't figure it out or I'm too lazy (this is probably the more likely scenario) I'll just go to Game Mania tomorrow-ish. _________________

It's just a gigantic list. The only way to find something if you have a large amount of songs is to search, or scroll a lot. _________________
