Play a favorite album, preferable one with a chill vibe, and throw up this behind it.

Seconded. I also find it really good background noise for studying. Hell, it doesn't even have to be mellow music - RM works really well with *album name redacted; site limit reached*, too.
EDIT: Damn, looks like SH has a cap on the number of times you can mention certain albums here. Well, you can probably guess which one I mean. _________________

I made a topic about this about the same time last year. Haven't used this in a while, though... *puts on an album and listens* _________________

My all-time favorite song to mellow out to fits perfect with this.
Hopesfall - Paisley
It's just the most relaxing song ever. _________________

It works really well with (though I shudder to say it) Metallica's softer songs - Fade to Black and The Unforgiven III come to mind. I actually haven't used rainymood in a rather long time; I should go back and check it out with some genres I hadn't before. Post-rock would be interesting, as would Bon Iver and Iron & Wine. Hmm. Yup, definitely have to go check that out.
I wonder what it says about the psychological aspect of rain and music that someone realized "Hey! You know what goes great with music I like? The sound of falling rain." _________________

Nothing. People have been listening to music in the rain since music was even a thing. I've listened to most of the music on my PC many times while the rain is beating down my windows... it doesn't really require a mental leap. _________________

I found a song that it doesn't really work with: cheerful overrules rain!
I'ma go try it with some Mogwai. Because that... that will work. _________________

Randomly remembered this post after about a year last week, and suddenly remembered what a great combination this is. Such a good song with rain, and it was massively nostalgic listening to it again after what, 8 months? Wow... Time Flies (que Porcupine Tree). But in all seriousness, cheers for the recomendation. _________________

I wasn't really big on the album when it came out, but seeing that song live with the video was riveting. _________________
