Live Stream FAQ
Q: My stream is live, but it's not showing as live! I want to rip your head off and shower in your blood.
SHORT ANSWER: SOMETIMES THE STREAMS DON'T UPDATE AND IT'S NOT MY FAULT.
QUICK FIX: TRY JOINING YOUR OWN STREAM TO ADD ONE VIEWER; TRY STOPPING/STARTING YOUR STREAM UNTIL YOUR STREAM IS LISTED HERE.
Long, technical answer: The ustream RSS feed (which I use to detect if you are online) takes anywhere from a few minutes to over an hour to update with a new stream. Therefore, even if you're online, it may take many update cycles before your stream will show up as active.
There is a Ustream API that I am fully aware exists; however, it is in beta and currently has some crippling bugs that make it even less desirable than the current setup.
Q: I've pasted the stream to this thread, but it's not showing up on the list at all. What is the deal?
Did you try posting it inside of code tags like I asked in the instructions? Try that, first. Otherwise read the next question...
Q: I've pasted the stream inside of code tags, but it's not showing up on the list at all. What is the deal?
My program only loads streams that exist. If you got your URL wrong and it leads to a 404, then my your stream won't show up on the list. Check that your URL is correct.
Q: I've done everything correctly, and it's still not showing up!
Try waiting a few minutes; my script doesn't update the thread instantaneously. Sometimes it even takes a good 20+ minutes (see next question)
Q: What should I do if I want to update the URL to my stream?
What to do depends on a few factors:
1. If your post is on the the last page of the thread, just update your URL there. Every 5 minutes, the URLs are picked up from the last page.
2. If your post is on another page of the thread and you can wait a while, just edit your post. About every eight hours there is a full check of the thread that is performed, and that will pick up your changes.
3. If your post is on another page and you are going to start streaming immediately, make a new post. (If possible I'd avoid this, but I can understand if you want to stream now.)
Q: What is the update interval?
My code refreshes 5 minutes after the last update. Technically, this means a little more than 5 minutes between updates as an update takes about eight seconds (bandwidth, etc.). Of course, if something comes up (such as my Internet temporarily dying), the update gets delayed.
There is a full-clean of the database that I do once every eight hours. This clean checks the validity of all streams, and as a result takes a long time (about 20 minutes).
Q: Is this automated stream list using the program from the old thread?
No. It's all my own code. The script was written in Python. It's one part heavily-modified CodeScraper and one part StreamManager.
Q: What happened to the old automated stream list?
http://www.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=760346#760346
Q: Can you help me get my own automated list setup?
The code has been released here. However, note that without modification of my source code, yours won't do anything except maintain an automated stream list on the Scorehero forums. Also, the program is not in any way user friendly (no pretty GUI or anything); it'll only be of use to you if you know how to program.
The following features are planned to be added:
-Save "last seen online" between program reboots.
The following features are explicitly NOT going to be added:
-Average time online. (This is a utility, not a competition)
-Number of viewers. (This is a utility, not a competition)
-Leaderboard for online time. (This is a utility, not a competition)
-Pictures of online streams. (Too much work to do with ustream, plus most pictures are going to be of - surprise - GH or RB. May change if ustream adds this utility.)
-Add ability to pick up any URL on page (I'm too lazy to do this, it's not an easy fix for very little reward).

1) You're using numbers in place of words.
2) You're spelling at the second grade level.
3) You're posting in CAPS.
4) This post is in the wrong place, and should have been in Software.
Conclusion: Custom songs are not your "cup of tea", and I'd suggest undertaking a much more simpler hobby. Perhaps tree watching. |

Answers: No, it's all my code. I don't know exactly why, but it was gone for what I was told for good.
