This is a really tough problem to fix, but I've got a few suggestions. First, check the circuit board on the strum bar unit and see if any of the contact points are touching. Etch out or use a super thin file to separate anything that is touching.
The last thing I can think to try to fix it is to disable the down strum connection and wire it in parallel to the up strum. When I get home tonight I'll post a picture on how to do this mod. You will have to use the dpad to navigate menus since both the up and down strum would act as an up strum, so it would be a little annoying. But it could still potentially fix this problem for gameplay which is where it really matters.
Although as you can see there are potential fixes for this problem, I urge anyone who is having this problem to just replace it for a new one that doesn't have this manufacturing defect. _________________

As promised, here is a fix for your guitar if the green/red/yellow = strum only happens for the down strum but not the up strum (reverse this if it is the opposite case for you)
You will need a dremmel tool (or at least a knife or razor)
Soldering gun
2-3 inch stretch of wire
This fix will replace the "down" input of your guitar with an "up" input to bypass any weird problems that you might have. To navigate the menus you will need to use the d-pad instead of the stum bar. Fist off, sever the connection between the down strum microswitch and the wire contacts. Solder a small stretch of wire between the down strum contact point and the up strum contact point. The up and down naturally share a common ground so this is the only new connection you need to make.
If for some reason you need to reverse this process, instead of soldering to the up strum, solder the wire to the wire that your severed connection leads to.

is gry=strum the problem where if you strum holding green and red, then yellow activates, because I'm about to open my guitar to see if I did something bad
edit: I think one of my wires was touching another causing this lol |

no its actually when the you hold the red yellow and the green also hits. and i guess i forgot to post this, but i tried what briguy said and it worked, except for the alternate struming is off. its wierd like the timing isnt right. if this happens to you just send it back in. _________________

It's the problem where it auto strums when you hold down those buttons, so, yes, you are correct, but the you say it, you make it sound like a good thing . |

that is a good thing!
i would love that, instead of strumming, just hitting those buttons.
It would make things different and possibly easier! _________________

instead of simply pressing the strum bar down, you would rather hold down a three note chord every time you want to strum yellow? This isn't a glitch that gives you tapping buttons. It's a pain in the ass. |

Bumping because I edited the OP with a slightly trickier but more guaranteed fix. _________________

Quote: | What makes the guitar strum after holding GRY, it ONLY strums when those frets are held:
R4-R4
C2-C4
So check in between those two pairs for any crossing. (This is on the smaller line of points labeled "NECK")
A picture of where you want to check: |
I got a Les Paul with the GRY problem and this TOTALLY fixed it!!
Thank you tehbanstick for posting this! _________________

First timer poster!
I'm not completely sure if this problem I'm having is the same, but with one of my Les Paul guitars (xb360 version), if I strum down while playing R and G it'll hit Y at the same time.
Anyone else had/having this problem and know of a fix? |
